A team of biomedical engineering students at the University of Iowa are turning their senior design project into a business venture. At a time when higher education leaders are facing relentless criticism over their handling of free speech and political protests, 10 university museums have planned nonpartisan shows focused on democracy, with the goal of getting students more engaged. Due to the custom nature of our products and services, we do not have a catalog or price sheet. Since we are a manufacturer, we have a $500 minimum order, which may be higher depending on the CNC process required.

These and other problems demand a deep and systems-level understanding of the underlying problem architecture, which in turn enables innovative, multi-faceted solutions that transcend disciplines and scales. Led by a faculty of industry practitioners, students will be introduced to the latest tools, practices, and sought-after skills that today’s market demands. Our faculty members bring expertise across a wide range of specialties, including creative strategy, design leadership, digital and traditional marketing communications, social media, management, and branding. The Division of Integrative Systems + Design, and especially the Design Science Program, gave me the opportunity to develop expertise that places my work at the forefront of systems research and practice. I learned theories and methods from disciplines throughout the university, culminating in diverse projects across industry and academia alike. Together, these backgrounds prepared me to contribute valuable perspectives and skills to one of the leading complex systems research centers in the world.
